| Memo: | Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- Siculodes aurorula Guenée, was included and figured by Herrich-Schäffer, [1858 December 31] 1850-1858, Samml. neuer oder wenig bekannter aussereur. Schmett. 1: 74, 82, pl. 70, fig.402. Plate 70 was probably issued in 1855 and for that reason some authors have attributed Siculodes to Herrich-Schäffer, but available evidence demonstrates that plate 70 was issued without a legend and the names of the species figured on it should therefore be dated from the relevant text. The text was issued in two parts, pages 1-52 in September 1856, the remainder in 1858 (see Fletcher 1979, in Nye 3: xii-xiv). As no precise date of publication is known for the second part of the text, it should be dated 31 December 1858 in accordance with that of the text, it should be dated 31 December 1858 in accordance with the Code, Article 21(b)(ii). The publication of volume 10 and of the Atlas of Guenée's work was announced in 1858 March 20, Biblphie Fr. (2) 2 (12): 153, no. 2877. Herrich-Schäffer, [1858], ibidem 1: 75, referred to `Siculodes Gn in litt.', probably cited in this way because Guenée gave no generic description; however, he clearly attributed the authorship of aurorula to Guenée, citing the Guenée plate on which both Siculodes and aurorula were published, before citing the reference to his own figure. The type-species designation cited above, although intended for Siculodes Herrich-Schäffer, is valid for Siculodes Guenée under the Code, Article |
