Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Viette incorrectly stated his type-species designation to be by monotypy. Guérin-Méneville included three species in his genus Strigoides, Phalaena strix Linnaeus, 1758; Cossus labyrinthicus Donovan, 1805; and Strigoides leucolophus sp.n. Viette's designation is neverless valid, for under Article 69(a)(iii) of the Code `... an author is considered to have designated one of the originally included nominal species as type-species, if he states that it is the type (or type-species), for whatever reason, right or wrong, and if it is clear that he himself accepts it as the type-species'.
