Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- (but cited as * Creatonotus, an incorrect subsequent spelling by Herrich-Schäffer), by monotypy (but included by Butler, 1876 September, as incerta; see below). [South America]: [tropical] Am. aequin., cited by Herrich-Schäffer, [1856], ibidem 1 (1): wrapper to pl.88. Herrich-Schäffer, [1856], illustrated as fig.503 and named on the wrapper of the Heft containing this figure, his new species lobifer. Later, in the text to the same work, [1858], ibidem 1 : 72, he placed lobifer as a junior synonym of Malabus incertus Walker, 1855, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 3 : 716, but these have since been treated as distinct species. Butler, 1876 September, in a Corrigenda et Addenda established Sutunocera for the species he had cited on page 419 as `Creatonotus incerta, Herrich-Schaffer, Aus. Schmett. i. fig.503'. This misidentification incertus Walker sensu Herrich-Schäffer, [1], had already been named by Herrich-Schäffer himself as lobifer. This is a case of a misidentified type-species which under the Code, Article 70(a), should be referred to the Commission. Sutonocera was established in the Zygaenidae; it was placed in the Arctiidae by Druce, 1884, Biologica cent.-am. (Zool.) Lepid.-Heterocera 1: 79.
Type Comments: Cited by Herrich-Schäffer, [1856], ibidem 1(1): wrapper to pl.88
