| Memo: | Hemming (1967) stated:- The taxon represented by the nominal species Papilio telicanus Lang is currently treated subjectively on taxonomic grounds as being the same as that represented by the older-established nominal species Papilio pirithous Linnaeus, 1767 (Syst. Nat. (ed. 12) 1 (2) : 790) or as a subspecies of that taxon. Syntarucus Butler, [1901], was established to denote a subgenus of Cyclyrius Butler, [1897] and was raised to generic level by Vari and Kroon, 1986, Lepidopterists Society of Southern Africa and the Transvaal Museum, p. 8. Contary to Hemming (1967) the type-species was designated in the original description. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). |
