Memo: Cowan (1970: 38) stated:- "THANATOS" Hemming, 1967 : 437. A myth. Hemming introduced this as an emendation by Dunning & Pickard, 1858, but Dunning & Pickard did not give it either as a name or as an emendation. All they did was, in discussing the name Thanaos Boisduval, which they accepted as valid, to say that it might possibly have been derived from the Greek word thanatos, meaning death. They did introduce a few emendations, in a very clear way which they explained at the end of their first paragraph on page vii. This was not one. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
