Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- Butler first identified Thestias Boisduval (: 37) with Ixias Hübner and then designated Papilio pyrene Linnaeus as the type-species for that genus (: 48). Ixias Hübner is an available name and Thestias is accordingly invalid as a junior objective synonym. Cowan (1970: 56) stated:- THESTIAS - The first valid type-designation appears to be that of Hemming, 1934 (Gen. Names Hol. Butt. : 126). Butler's of 1870 was based on subjective synonymy and not positive, [this replaces - by selection by Butler (Cist. ent. 1 : 37, 48), (in Hemming, 1967 p.440)]. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
