Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Included in a work rejected for nomenclatural purposes by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenlature, 1956, Opin. Decl. int. Commn zool. Nom. 14 (Opinion 417): 3. Only originally included species: Sphinx atropos Linnaeus, 1758 (see below). Oken placed S. atropos as an objective synonym of an unnecessary replacement name * Atropos * Solani; the specific name is unavailable for the same reason as * Atropos Oken. Kitching & Cadiou (2000) list * ATROPOS Oken, 1815; ATROPOS Agassiz, 1846; BRACHYGLOSSA Boisduval, 1828; and * MANDUCA Hübner, 1806 as junior names of ACHERONTIA Laspeyres, 1809.
