Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology: Name No.1063, with Phalaena atlas designated as type-species under the plenary powers of the Commission. Neave, 1939, Nomencl. zool. 1: 352, cited `Attacus Germar 1811' as the first available use of this name.
Type Comments: America was also listed by Linnaeus as a locality for A. atlas, but this was an error for the species does not occur in the New World.
