| Memo: | Hemming (1967) stated:- This name was published as "Autonema Boisd. MS." in the synonymy of Prothoe Hübner, [1824]. As so published, the name Autonema Westwood would be invalid as a junior objective synonym of Prothoe Hübner, even if it were otherwise available. Under Article 11(d) however the name Autonema Westwood, as a name published in a synonymy, possesses no status in Zoological nomenclature, and is invalid on this account, quite apart from being a junior objective synonym of Prothoe Hübner. Cowan (1970: 17) stated:- "Since writing Annot. Rhop. 1968 (cf. pp. 16, n. 3; 19, n. 16) it has been found that volume 2 of Mém. Soc. Linn. Paris was never published. Only a proof copy is known, which contains no plates (see J. Soc. Biblphy. nat. Hist. 5 (2) : 152-154). The species concerned were described by Godart in [July 1824], Encyc. Méth. (Zool.) 9 (2), and that is the correct reference AUTONEMA: Thais cerisy [nec cerisyi] Godart, [1824] : 812" [The type-species was changed from : - Prothoe franckii Hübner, [1824], Samml. exot. Schmett. 2 : [54] (in Hemming, 1967: 70) to the one given]. Cowan (1970: 26) stated:- "AUTONEMA" Westwood, [1850] : 266. Not available. Introduced as "Boisd. ms." in the synonymy of Prothoe Hübner, with only one species. Never raised from synonymy." The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). |
