Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- The name Baeotis hisbaena was introduced by Hübner as a replacement name for Papilio hisbon Cramer, [1775], Uitl. Kapellen 1 (7) : 130, pl. 83, fig. C. This action on Hübner's part was quite uncalled for, as the specific name Lisbon Cramer is perfectly available nomenclatorially. In consequence, the specific name hisbaena Hübner is invalid as a junior objective synonym of Lisbon Cramer. The latter is the oldest available name objectively available for the present species, and, as there is no older subjective synonym, it is the valid name for this species. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). See images at Butterflies of America.
