Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- The drawings of the larva and pupa of what in the legend of pl. 3 Boisduval called Adolias aconthea were copied by him from the figures given by Horsfield in [1829] (Descr. Cat. lep. Ins. Mus. East India Coy (2) : explic. pl. 8, fig. 6) for his then new nominal species Aconthea primaria. It will be recalled from the discussion on the nominal genus Aconthea Horsfield, [1829], of which the foregoing nominal species is the type-species, that it seems likely that Horsfield looked upon Aconthea primaria as a substitute nominal taxon for the older-established nominal species Papilio aconthea Cramer but he gave no clear evidence that this was his view. On the present occasion however Boisduval by reproducing Horsfield's figures under the name Adolias aconthea finitely established a subjective synonymy between the nominal species Papilio aconthea Cramer and Aconthea primaria Horsfield. The nominal genera Adolias Boisduval, [1836], and Aconthea Horsfield, [1829], thus have as their respective type-species nominal species which are currently considered on taxonomic grounds to represent the same taxon. As this synonymization rests only on a subjective basis, the later-published of these names, that is, Adolias Boisduval, remains a nomenclatorially available name. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
