Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- A junior objective synonym of Amata Fabricius, 1807. Coenochromia was established having two originally included nominal species. The first of these was cited by Hübner as `1316. Coenochromia Creusa Linn. Syst. Sph. 39. Cram. 248.F.' Hampson, 1898, ibidem 1: 304 treated Sphinx creusa Linnaeus, 1758, Syst. Nat. (Edn 10) 1: 494, as denoting a valid species in the genus Euchromia Hübner, [1819]. On page 86, however, Hampson treated Sphinx creusa Cramer, 1779, Uitlandsche Kapellen (Papillons exot.) 3: 94, 174, pl.248, fig.F, as a junior synonym of Zygaena passalis Fabricius, 1781. Hampson thus indicated that Cramer had misidentified S. creusa Linnaeus, and that Hübner had followed Cramer. This is a case of a misidentified type-species which should be referred to the Commission under Article 70(a) of the Code.
