Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- D. sacchari Guilding, 1828, is a junior secondary homonym of Crambus sacchari Fabricius, 1798, Ent. Syst. (Suppl.): 469, which is an unjustified emendation of Phalaena saccharalis Fabricius, 1794, Skr. Naturh.-Selsk Kobenhaven 3 (2): 64, pl.7, fig.1, and 1794, Ent. Syst. 3 (2): 238. There is no objective replacement name but Diatraea sacchari Guilding, 1828, is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena saccharalis Fabricius, 1794; the latter is thus available for use as a subjective replacement name. The subjective synonymy was first established by Westwood, 1840, Introd. mod. Classif. Insects 2: 411. The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1961, Bull. zool. Nom. 18 (Opinion 594): 123, placed Diatraea Guilding, 1828, on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology with name No. 1409 and with the Diatraea sacchari Guilding, 1828, as type-species. See also: * Diaraetria Grote, 1882; * Diatrea Guilding, 1828. DIATRAEA was included within the subfamily CRAMBIDAE: CRAMBINAE by Munroe & Solis, in Kristensen (1999).
