Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- An Unjustified Emendation of Diophtalma Boisduval, [1836]. Cowan (1970: 36) stated:- "DIOPHTHALMA" Agassiz, 1846, Nomencl. Zool. (9/10) : Lepid., 22. Incorrect Subsequent Spelling for Diophtalma Boisduval, 1836. Agassiz, or his assistant Zeller, no doubt thinking of the derivation, did not note the departure from the original spelling, nor record it. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
