Memo: Cowan (1970: 10) stated:- Rafinesque gave no other data for Diorthosus than to equate it with what he called "Hesperia Cuvier", of which taxon he also separated an unspecified part as a new genus named Steropes (q.v. below). He also proposed the new subfamily name Diorthosia for the family now known as Hesperiidae, in which he included, besides the two genera already mentioned, "Erymnis Schrank, Thymale Fabricius, Phidias R." (q.v. below) and, with a query, Urania Fabricius. Cuvier, 1800, Lec. Anat. Comp. I divided the Butterflies simply into Papilio and Hesperia Fabricius, 1793], and no other treatment by him can be found. Diorthosus Rafinesque, 1815 must be regarded as invalid as a junior objective synonym of Hesperia Fabricius, 1793. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
