| Memo: | Nye (1975) stated:- An incorrect Subsequent spelling of * Diphthera Hübner, [1806], and Diphthera Hübner, 1809. Ochsenheimer attributed this genus to Hübner and was not proposing a new genus. Some authors, including Boisduval and Guenée, have used Ochsenheimer's incorrect spelling as an available name, but under the Code, Article 19, an incorrect spelling has no standing in nomenclature. Ochsenheimer, Treitschke, Boisduval and Guenée all followed Hübner's [1806] Tentemen concept based on the misidentification, Noctua aprilina Linnaeus sensu Hübner, [1803]. Hübner in 1809 broadened his concept (See Diphthera Hübner, [1809]) by including Diphthera elegans Hübner, [1809]. Sodoffsky, 1837, Bull. Soc. imp. Nat. Moscou 1837 (6):85, noted that Treitschkés spelling of the generic name was incorrect. Stephens (1856. List. Br. Anim. V.-Lepidoptera:103) cites DIPHTERA. |
