Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- P. tarquinius Cramer, 1775, was included by Hübner in the synonymy of Phalaena tarquinia Cramer, 1775, ibidem 1: 6, pl.4, fig.A. Grote's designation is valid under the Code, Article 69(a)(i), which states '... the `originally included species' comprise only those cited by name in the newly established nominal genus, either as valid names (including subspecies, varieties, and forms) as synonyms ...'. P. tarquinia and P. tarquinius were published simultaneously. Hübner, [1819] 1816, ibidem: 153, as first reviser, adopted P. tarquinia as the senior name. Thus P. tarquinius became a junior primary homonym of P. tarquinia under Article 57(b)(i) of the Code. There is no objective replacement name, but P. tarquinius is a junior subjective synonym of P. tarquinia; the latter is thus available for use as a subjective replacement name. Both names are dated from the wrapper of part 1, not from the title-page of volume 1 which is dated 1779. From a multiple original spelling in which * Dirphya (by implication as the singular of Dirphyae) and Dirphia were used, Dirphia is the spelling that has been adopted by Authors. See also: Hyperdirphia Packard, 1903. DIRPHIA was included within the subfamily SATURNIIDAE: HEMILEUCINAE by Lemaire & Minet, in Kristensen (1999).
