Memo: Fletcher (1979) stated:- D. inunculata is a junior subjective synonym of Platypteryx quatuormaculata Verloren, 1837, Cat. syst. Lepid. quae in opere Crameri . . . Latreilleii: 156, which is the objective replacement name for Phalaena maculata Stoll, 1790, in Cramer, Uitlandsche Kapellen (Papillons exot.) (Aanhangsel): 56, pl.12, fig.6, a junior homonym of Phalaena maculata Scopoli, 1763, Ent. Carniolica: 224 - Lepid. Geometridae. Incorrect type-species: Phalaena maculata Stoll, 1790, a name only doubtfully included by Guenée when he proposed Drepanodes; designated by Warren, 1894, Novit. zool. 1: 458. Under Article 67(h) of the Code a doudtfully included species is not eligible for selection as type-species. In designating D. inunculata Guenée as type-species I have followed a proposal found in Prout's manuscript notes. Prout also regarded Warren's type-species designation as incorrect, and in order to preserve the currently accepted concept of Drepanodes he had intended to designate D. inunculata as type-species. Parsons et al. (1999) included COMIBAENA Herrich-Schäffer, 1855; DREPANODES Guenée, 1857; HALESA Walker, 1860; and HEMIOPLISIS Herrich-Schäffe, 1855 as junior synonyms of PATALENE Herrich-Schäffer, 1854. Pitkin (2002) included Hemioplisis Herrich-Schäffer, 1855; Comibaena Herrich-Schäffer, 1855; Drepanodes Guenée, [1858]; Halesa Walker, 1860; Astatomorpha Warren, 1894; and Porona Schaus, 1901 as junior synonyms of Patalene Herrich-Schäffer, [1854] 1850-1858.
Type Comments: Type locality stated doubtfully, but possibly correctly, to be BRAZIL for the species is known to occur there.
