Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- A junior homonym of Echidna Forster, 1788, Enchiridion: 78, - Pisces. There is no objective replacement name, but E. selene is conspecific with Plectropteron dianae Hutton, 1846, the type-species of Plectropteron Hutton, 1846; the latter is thus available for use as a subjective replacement name. Hübner illustrated Echidna selene on these unnumbered plates in the Samml. exot. Schmett. 1: plate [172], published in [1810], shows two views of the male, fig.1 with the wings spread, fig.2 with the wings folded and is labelled `Echidna caudata Selene'; plate [173], published in [1807], shows a female specimen of selene with the wings spread, but the plate was labelled `Echidna caudata Luna' in error; plate [174], published in [1813], shows a female of selene with the wings folded and this plate is labelled `Echidna caudata selene'. Hübner was evidently uncertain of the identity of his female specimen, for the pattern plates of plates [173] and [174] in the library of the BMNH each bear both names, `Luna' and `Selene'. However, when the Index Systematicus to volume 1 of the work.
Type Comments: The type-locality cited is taken from Hübner's manuscript, where it is listed as `Ostr-Indien'.
