Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- The taxon represented by the nominal species Papilio otreus Stoll is currently treated subjectively on taxonomic grounds as being the same as that represented by the older-established nominal species Papilio philemon Fabricius, 1775 (Syst. Ent. : 534). Further, the taxon represented by the nominal species Papilio philemon Fabricius is currently regarded subjectively on taxonomic grounds as being a subspecies of the taxon represented by the nominal species Papilio arcas Drury, [1773] (In. nat. Hist. 1 : index et 38, pl. 19, figs 5, 6). The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). See images at Butterflies of America where it is treated in the Pyrrginae: Carcharodini.
