Hermann Herbarium

The collection of dried plants and drawings made in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) for Paul Hermann in the 1670s possesses a special importance in being one of the first major collections of the botany of the East Indies.

Although largely restricted to plants from the area around Colombo (including a number of foreign introductions in gardens), the collection is nevertheless of great scientific importance. Unfortunately, Hermann's premature death, in 1695, delayed its becoming available to the scientific world of his time.
