Malformed wave files

This dataset provides 51 short audio files (about 1 MB each). Each was cut from the middle of a Creative Commons-licensed recording from BioAcoustica (bio.acousti.ca) or iNaturalist and then given one known fault on purpose. Together they cover failure modes from file identity and chunk structure to data sizing, format headers, large-file (RF64) headers, sample content, metadata, AIFF-specific faults and codec limits. The source recordings are of six animals: two frogs, a katydid, a shieldback, a grasshopper and a cricket. A manifest gives, for each file, every fault ID it shows, the change made, its source recording, licence, attribution and SHA-256 checksum. The manifest is the reference against which checking tools can be tested. Each file keeps its source's licence (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA or CC BY-NC).
