A guide to lichens on twigs

Welcome to the guide to lichens on twigs. This site provides a user-friendly guide to over 60 lichens which can be found growing on twigs, as well as the data underlying the app. With the help of our fully illustrated multi-access key we hope you will find identification of these unique organisms easy and fun. Lichens are extremely sensitive to pollution and are natural indicators of the health of our environment.

This interactive identification guide was developed by Museum scientists Pat Wolseley, Diccon Alexander, Peter James and Anne Hume, with photographs by Harry Taylor.

This guide is part of the AIDGAP project that produces user tested guides to animals and plants. You can obtain hard copy versions to take in the field with you from:

FSC Publications, Field Studies Council, Preston Montford, Montford Bridge, Shrewsbury, SY4 1HW, UK

The Field Studies Council (FSC) is a pioneering independent educational charity committed to raising awareness about the natural world. As well as running a national network of environmental education centres, the FSC manages the AIDGAP project.
