Covid-19 Chiropteran Knowledge Base

The project "COVID-19 Chiropteran Knowledge Base" involved the audit and label data transcription of all the bat specimens belonging to the families of Rhinolophidae (Horseshoe bats), Hipposideridae (Old World leaf-nosed bats) and Rhinonycteridae (Trident bats) at the Natural History Museum, London at the time of project completion (December 2021). In addition, it included the imaging of the skulls and wet material of the type specimens of the families mentioned above, creating a valuable resource for taxonomic identification. The output of this project is part of a much larger dataset with the same name, to which eight other European institutions also contribute.

This collection was digitised as part of the Museum's Digital Collections Programme and was funded by Synthesys+ Virtual Access.
