Age: The original specimen was Late Pleistocene in age (between 129,000 and 11,700 years old)
Collection: The original specimen was collected in September to October 1832 by Charles Darwin
Comments: This is a cast of the holotype mandible of Mylodon darwinii (PV M 16563) and was made at the Royal College of Surgeons. It is not clear when the cast was made, but probably on or before 1887 (when it was entered into the accession register). The cast is of the right side of the original specimen and shows the original prior to some damage to the back of jaw.
